Beyond that as a public servant he has a greater responsibility to be a positive force in his community. Why would someone at Walmart or McDonald's make that joke? It only makes sense if a cop makes it.
And get off your high horse about higher moral standard. The joke might have been in poor taste but there's no evidence of ill will.
