I actually think its safer if the US slipped some assasins accross the boarder and they took down the leader.

Then when it happends, the US goes "Someone shot him?! Oh thats too bad. It wasnt us that did it".

However even that carries some risk, if it goes wrong, you might get a nuke strike sent your way.

Russia is smarter than that, they normally just manipulate events to go the way they want (bribe, hack, propaganda,spin,misinformation ect). They typically get what they want without haveing to fire a single bullet.

When it comes to military force, or moveing into territories and killing people (to get their way), thats usually the US's solution to things.
