Video gaming as a hobby basically died last gen if you loved classic style JRPGs and hated FPS, at least on home consoles. (I basically gave up and turned to tabletop RPGs 7th gen.) It is weird to hear people talk about stuff like Dark Souls like it is an RPG when to my eyes it plays like an action game with a level mechanic. Final Fantasy has dropped all pretenses and gone action derp mode. (Nevermind how basically every remake this gen plays like the original, FF7 NEEDS to be completely different.

Despite all that, I've found more turn-based fare this gen that last, sometimes in surprising places (like Child of Light). I think the classic genre was in rehab last gen and it has returned (albeit in shaky health) this gen. Hopefully it makes a decent recovery next gen; "RPG elements" are like going on a tame fair ride when you want a legit roller coaster.
