Now I want to hear about how the games look on a 1080p display supersampled. 

Downsampling is only part of the story... But it does make things look clean and sharp.
And if a game has had it's textures, filtering, effects and such all enhanced, you get the benefit of those too irrespective of your resolution.

Granted it will look best on a 4k TV. But it is not a requirement.
