Because it doesn't fit within the lore and because the story in the game was half baked. Instead of fixing it, they give us this.

meh plenty games have half baked stories(including some final fantasy games) just hope the next one improves its story. This just seems a cool fun add on for people who  have the game already and like it.  plus its free
