How did you reach these conclusions? It directly states 2-3% own more than one of 360/PS3/Wii. I can't even follow the number massaging you've done here to take a very direct, clear statement: 2-3% of the population owns multiple next gen consoles, and then somehow translate this into "7% own more than one."
Are you including PC in the "own more than one?" Title? Or previous gen consoles, as well? Is this a "if you exclude all the people who don't play games, and then also exclude everyone who doesn't own a next gen console, and then exclude..." type of post? |
Read the article. It says 2% own 3, and 3% own 2 of the next-gen (Wii/X360/PS3) consoles. It also says "of respondents"and that means the ENTIRE study. thus 5% of the ENTIRE study owns more than 1 next-gen console. The issue is that many folks believe this means "5% of next-gen console owners have overlapping consoles when choosing a piece of software". This just plain isn't true. Its probably pretty close to the 21% I calculated.
I reached the conclusion with an elusive thing called "math". =) I am open to seeing flaws in the math. Please read the article carefully, and point them out when posting, rather than posting a from-the-hip response. This discussion was meant to be about next-gen console owners, not the general populace. The number of next-gen owners who have more than one console is really the important number -- the 5% of respondents number is meaningless, but is often used in the stead of a real number (probably close to 21.5%) here to say things like "cross platform games don't have competition from a better console in a Wii household"... which just doesn't appear to be "as true" as some would believe.
