I think the Germans make it easier in terms of spelling and rules, I rarely hear them say "It is pronounced like this, except in these situations" which English is full of examples. Tomb, comb, bomb, was one I cannot imagine explaining to people. |
Ah, but the German language gets you back in other ways, like how many ways can you say 'the'
And then apply these rules to objects which, to a native English speaker, seem to have had their gender assigned at random! Trying to learn this aspect of German grammar was the biggest headache for me.
