Age of Empires 2 was on Playstation 2.
Microsoft has ironically made the *best* RTS game on consoles. Halo Wars 1.
They could take what they have learned from that and use it to improve the console port.

Microsoft did actually have a way to get around the controller/keyboard issue for RTS gaming on console.
We saw a glimpse of it with End War... That is. Voice Commands.
But with Kinect now being a distant memory... Well. You get the idea.

I see it as a missed opportunity.
Age of Empires is an amazing franchise... And I would love to see it exposed to as many gamers across as many platforms as possible.
But I do agree with your premise, give the PC version undivided attention first and foremost. Then scale it to consoles if possible.
