Hmm, if you enjoyed the anime that much, then maybe the manga will be just as good? I mean, I could just watch the anime, but I'm really trying to get into more manga than anything.

How is it in terms of tone? Is it light hearted, serious, is there any weird tentacle shit in it? Since y'know, the teacher is an octopus thing lol.

Mostly light-hearted, though it gets more serious the more it goes on. I'd say it's comedy first and foremost, with some (imo) well handled dramatic moments.

I won't say there's no tentacle stuff...but it's pretty PG for the most part. Nothing serious at least. :P I think you can handle anything this one might tease.

The chapter that finally made me put it down was when it was revealed that he has been the good guy the whole time, despite the opening premise.

Hm...it's interesting how the same scene affected our engagement in the story so differently.

I was expecting him to be a misunderstood hero the entire story, ever since an early episode hinted at him being a human previously. Having him turn out to be the former Shinigami, and revealing all the sins he committed in his previous life, only to find redemption after being betrayed, was something I found very well handled. So while he wasn't a villain, I don't think the story ignored the type of person he used to be, and to be honest, I was grateful at how story handled his character arc.

It's true that Koro-sensei takes center stage as the story goes on, though I actually appreciated this more, as I always found him more interesting than the students. He is overpowered, which is why I wouldn't recommend reading it as a battle manga. I like to think of it like One Punch Man, which uses overpowered character in order to fulfill other conflicts. Personally, I found Assassination Classroom to be less of a battle manga, and more of a character drama. The scene after Aguri's death probably defined his character better than anything else in the story. "I want to be weak."
