Has anyone here read Assassination Classroom? It sounds weird and interesting, and has popped up on my recommendations list on Amazon after buying my next volumes of Tokyo Ghoul.

I tried the manga and got a hundred-ish chapter in before dropping it.

One of the other posters is right in that it starts out more like a gag manga and that was the part I enjoyed. It didn't matter that Koro-sensei was unbeatable because the kids in the class were the main characters and the comedy was good. However, the deeper into you get, the more backstory you learn the worse it gets. Koro-sensei takes a bigger and bigger role as time goes until for all intents and purposes he is the main character. Which completes his journey to the 'Mary Sue' side of the force. He is unbeatable in battle (even when they finds a way to exploit multiple weakness, he always pulls some new power out of his ass to win), he is super intelligent, a master-class teacher, understanding with his students, and just all around 'the best guy ever'.

The chapter that finally made me put it down was when it was revealed that he has been the good guy the whole time, despite the opening premise.
