Don't watch a review from certain sites... Or any site, really. Not until you've beaten it. All they're gonna do is spoil the game or tell you why it sucks.

If it's a game you already bought or plan on buying, don't worry about anyone else's opinion.

Play the game without spoiling it for myself.

Yup, I NEVER spoil games for myself, I despise spoilers, they're awful things, and I never read or watch reviews for games I already know I'll be buying anyway, only if I'm on the fence about a game... although even then I'll generally just look at the Meta score, or watch a user review on YouTube that is nonbiased, since y'know, certain sites play in different courts.

If I let opinions stop me playing games, I'd never have bought and played Knack or The Order: 1886, both games which are rather disliked, but I think they're both great! :P

I think it's a great thing that public opinion isn't always followed. I happen to like games like Batman: Arkham Knight or Assassin's Creed 3, which are deemed by the public as massive disappointments. The most important criteria is if there was a personal sense of enjoyment to be had with the game. Mixed opinions are what game developers need on their games in order to ensure that what is done well is maintained and what is done poorly is fixed.
