I LOVED the cheesy Lunar and Sonic CD soundtracks. :D

Machines like the Sega CD go to show you that transitional-generation systems like the PlayStation 4 Pro and Xbox One X are nothing new or revolutionary. There have certainly been awkward, Generation [X].5 systems that gave you a taste of what was to become standardized soon, but without the full and matured leap. The Sega CD stood as a kind of mid-generation go-between the Genesis and the Saturn, for instance, introducing the CD format as an add-on, but without the full tech leap that was the Saturn. 4K and VR gaming are going through a similarly awkward introductory phase today. It won't be awkward anymore by the time we actually get to the 9th console generation itself though.

Transitional stages, anyway, are always fun because they're the weirdest.

Yeah, I like them a lot too. Which is why I also like seeing 3D PC games pre-accelelerator, SNES 3D FX games, Jaguar games, 32x games and 3DO games, to see crude 3D graphics.
