All in all, it's always good to remember that you live on a planet of 7 billion. The news carefully cherrypicks all the absolute worst incidents they can find, on a daily basis - and among 7 billion, they will find SOMETHING. As a whole, though, we live in a wonderful, peaceful, safe era.

I wouldn't call this a wonderful era. Maybe it's because I was younger and more oblivious to stuff in general, but I feel like the world was a much safer and more peaceful place 10-15 years ago (well, at least the city where I live it definitely was). I'm happy with my own life and honestly 2017 has been probably the best year for me as it brought with it a good bunch of awesome games and movies (and is still bringing them), but outside of the artistic world it has been shit for sure.

the world is safer now than it has ever been, it is a fact. more people died of terrorist acts in the 70-90's than now, by far.
so no, your facts are wrong. your feelings has nostalgia built into it cause you felt safer as a child, not because it WAS safer.
