Alrighty then, seeing as you want to push the goalposts out to include windows software, by all means throw in sales of all 3DS and WiiU software too. Let's take Microsoft's "Installed on 200 Million computers" estimate at face value, and ignore the fact that a large portion of these users were actually free upgraders (even people who had pirated previous versions) and that figure also includes people running the software in trial mode, hence why they tout it as installed on, rather than sold to. But even still let's take it at face value and credit Microsoft with 200 million sales. Add to that Microsoft's own Lumia phones created after acquiring Nokia, between Q4 2011 and today: 111.3M, add to that the Xbox One sales of roughly 30 million, and since we don't know xbox one's software sales, let's take the estimated average attach rate for ps4 of 7.51 and generously round it up to 8 (way higher than it actually will be, but hey, we're giving Microsoft the best chance of winning here, just to prove a point), this gives us 240 million. So we have: 200m from Windows 10, 111.3m from their mobile range, and 240m from Xbox software, giving us a grand total of 551.3m WiiU sales: 13.56M Total combined software+hardware sales for *just* 3DS and WiiU : 496.34 Million. Then we add in mobile. so even with *just* mario run, Nintendo's total creeps up to 574.34, which is already higher than Microsoft with the conditions you set. So, 551.3m vs 1.22b MS crushes Nintendo you say?, take a seat fella. |
Uhhmm...... Yeah whatever makes you sleep better at night, lol.

There will always be competition no matter what happens in this industry, a major partnership between MS and Nintendo would only strenghen their resources and make them a better competitor against Sony. They would definitely own a big chunk of marketshare and they would pretty much be like Samsung vs Apple.
Look at it this way right now Sony is Youtube, MS and Nintendo are Vimeo and Dailymotion.

If Nintendo wanted a Forza or halo they couldve made it better than Microsoft if they put their mind to it. What Nintendo needs to do is make sure metroid is turned into the premier FPS game on the switch.. If Nintendo could turn that franchise into the it shooter on the switch we wouldnt have to bring up Halo. No offense to Microsoft, but at this rate with their internal development all theyve got in Halo, Gears and Forza. Nintendo and Sony will continue to build up new ips and quite frankly their consoles compliment one another better. What Sony and Nintendo have that Microsoft does not is developmental identity, creativity and talent. They know what they are focusing on, make games for that bracket tirelessly and with a high level of quality and polish. I mean...at this point Spencer has admitted this about Sony and Nintendo with single player games. I mean, lets face it....Xbox Live is great but PSN is no slouch. |
Please we all know Nintendo favors Mario Kart over any other racing sim even over their own game F-Zero. They've solidified Mario Kart as the Nintendo racing game, but let's say Nintendo does like games with realistic aesthetics and for mature audiences why then Splatoon and Arms? Nintendo is not interested in graphics, engines and heavy focus on online play especially not in FPS since they've never reffered to Metroid Prime as an FPS and with good reason because it isn't. Metroid Prime never competed with other FPS like Halo, Battlefield or Cod and frankly it couldn't because Metroid games just don't sell.
I think Sony has far more in common with Microsoft then they do with Nintendo. Sony really doesn't care for it's Japanese audience like they did in the PS1 and PS2 days, in contrast conservative Nintendo has always been about Japan first, rest of the world second which is sometimes their downfall. Sony has shown since the beginning of the past generation that all of their focus goes to Western developers. They keep pushing for more realistic and mature looking games like Uncharted, shooters like Killzone and Resistance, realistic looking Japanese games like Demons Souls, The Last Guardian and Resident Evil, 50 dollars of PSN users, while keeping their "too Japanese" looking games in the closet. Why do you think Sony lost Monster Hunter and now quite possibly made a deal with Capcom to keep MH Worlds exclusive? Because they were losing the Japanese support the only reason Japanese third parties keep developing for Sony is because PS4 is leading in sales and they've got the hardware they can develop for, Nintendo on the other hand has the weak hardware as usual.
Nintendo and Microsoft would compliment each other much better.
