Nah, why the effort? Prove they're guilty, slam the hammer, bring them into the back room and bullet in the head. Every second or cent we spend on sociopaths is wasted.

Well if we are intending to use the death penalty as a deterrent we might as well go all out and make it as excruciating as possible. A bullet to the head is the easy way out. In the United States death penalty cases tend to be more expensive than life-sentences because of the necessary appeals process. When we put somebody to death we need to put in the extra effort to make sure they are guilty of their crime, because we can't bring people back to life if they are found to be innocent, while we can send somebody with a life sentence free if the same were to happen.

Death penalties or life sentences do not deter anyone, at least not the people they're meant for. Those people are morons and sociopaths, they don't give a shit. They cannot even grasp the consequences. Death sentences are about not wasting time or money.

It's not hard to prove crime beyond doubt. The most horrible crimes the death sentences are for also usually come with a confession because those killers show no remorse. If your killer or attacker shows no remorse it's a very easy bullet to the head. I'm not a big fan of torturing or drawing things out. Every second those people are allowed to live is an insult to the victims.
