With ps4 still selling so good, having a 500 $ competitor can help sony a lot.
While XBX can't really sell big numbers, it prevents Microsoft from releasing a new machine in -at least- the next two years. Sony has all the interest in launching at the same time of microsoft: 1 because more time means more power gap with ps4 pro 2 because launching at the same time allow sony to not have power gaps with the xbox one successors.
So basically sony can have two more years of massive sales without any real competition (at least from microsoft).
