It's not too difficult to think up some more realistic reasons than holding a grudge. Will MS honor and keep a blocked players list? Investigate harassment reports? How will messaging work with their own sets of sensored words, including usernames that might be offensive in other language areas? Who is going to put the money, time and effort in to implement and oversee cross platform issues. And sure, in the end it's all more trouble than it's worth for Sony.
