Man this was a really touch choice between Dark Souls and Super Metroid. Both games are fantastic to this day. Both were sequels that launched their respective genres into the stratosphere. Metroidvania and Souls-like weren't very well known until these games came out.
FFVI and ALttP are also legends.
I had to lol at Fable, Streets of Rage, and Pac Man being choices. Maybe Pac Man should be on the list, but I'm not sure. Pac Man just isn't fun after 30 years. It's like putting Super Mario Galaxy and Pitfall in the same poll. One was good for it's time but is now drastically outdated. The other one is a classic that redefined it's own genre.
