Welcome back. Unfortunetly PS4 is tracking ahead of ps3 and it will extend it's lead by a lot this year and next. You should know by now to stop underestimating the PS4 :) 

The doom is still real. Those that said PS4 would sell max 5-6M lifetime have slowly moved the goalpost to "bbuu buuuut its nevur gonna outsell PS3!" (10M).

You cant relly blame people that thought PS4 will fail in Japan when needed almost hole year to hit 1st milion, and had worst 1st year for any hardware in Japan. But its good in any case that PS4 dindt failed and start selling better.

Race to 1 million: 

-GBA: 3 weeks

-NDS: 4 weeks

-PS2: 5 weeks

-WII: 6 weeks

-3DS: 13 weeks

-PSP: 14 weeks

-SWI: 17 weeks

-NGC: 17 weeks

-N64: 29 weeks

-PS1: more than 30 weeks

-WIU: 34 weeks

-PS3: 36 weeks

-PSV: 43 weeks

-DC: 45 weeks

-PS4: 49 weeks

 

We will see if PS4 will outsell PS3 at end.

Home console price point would have been $400 or more. The Switch is closer in price to the 3DS launch than the PS4 or XboxOne launch prices. And I didn't miss your point which was about how the percentage of sales that Japan represents is way down compared to previous gens.

I guess than Wii and Wii U were not home consoles!? :D  No, you clearly missed my point, when you mentioned Switch, and now you mention percentage.
