AMD doesn't need to seriously concern itself with Intels Pentium. The Ryzen 3 1200 is competing in the same price bracket as Intels Pentium G4620 anyway, once you start delving into the extremely low-end, then profit margins take a hit... Which is the last thing AMD needs right now to get back into profitability.
Instead AMD needs a successor to Puma+ to do battle in the low-end.
What Intel is trying to do instead is bring the Pentium up a notch by adding Hyper-Threading and playing with clocks to compete with AMD's R3... And it's about time.
Dual core/dual threaded CPU's have no place in 2017, some games won't even work on them anymore.
Quad-cores need to be the minimum in 2017 IMHO.
Also sad to see that the R3 Ryzens aren't 35-45w TDP parts, missed opportunity to appeal to the HTPC market there.
If you wish to build a budget gaming rig though, the Ryzen 3 1200 overclocked to 3.8ghz~ is a bloody sweet deal, drop in a Radeon 560/Geforce 1050 and you have a very capable 1080P gaming rig. - Or go the RX 580/Geforce 1060 for 1440P goodness.
