"Best game ever made" is a very generic term that can be interpreted in any number of ways.  We have lots of top 100 lists from numerous websites, and to my knowledge all of them use nostalgia and influence in their arguments.  I'm saying, for once, make a top 100 list of the "true" best games as they stand today.  If you think zelda oot is better than botw, then prove it without nostalgia.

In other words, instead of playing vs mode in mario kart for the zillianth time, lets play some battle mode.

These lists understandably take impact, influence, innovation and time into account. Or else the vast majorities of old classics don't stand a chance against recent well regarded games objectively.

It's impossible to separate your bias and personal feelings towards something. If I felt Zelda BotW is "dull" then I guess that's it! No amount of arguments, praise and perfect scores will change how I feel about it, and therefore I'd be lying to please the fanboys if I rank it too high in my list of best games.

In my honest opinion, GTAIV and The Elder Scrolls Oblivion are borderline "average" Yet they're two of the absolute highest rated games of all time in their genre.

There are actually lists that don't put strong emphasis on nostalgia/impact/time. Like "best games of the decade" or "best games of the generation" Aren't these good enough?

I think it's unfair, and even pointless, to compare BotW to OoT without considering influence and the way each made you feel.

But they are 2 different arguments.  For one, you're basing your favorite game off a distant memory, most likely during your childhood.  By continuing putting impact, influence, and innovation into your argument, your are ignoring decades of improvements.  It's dishonest at best to say that OOT is better than BOTW, because anyone with half a brain can tell you that OOT doesn't even compare.  Especially since we won't know the impact BOTW will have on the gaming world for years to come.

These lists aren't actually "Best game ever made" they are "Best experience I can remember having on a game".  Peoples lives and interests in gaming change over time, and it's silly in my opinion to compare an experience you had playing a game 20 years ago, to an experience you had 3 months ago.  The fact that people so often say "This game still holds up well" in their arguments for best game of all time, should tell you just how absurd these lists are.

And best games of the decade or generation aren't the same because their are older games that could make a top 100 list if we were to try and figure out a "true" best game ever made.  Such as super metroid, or even a link to the past.

And I'm not saying to seperate your bias or personal feelings from a game, I'm saying to judge it for what it is now, not for what it was.  If you find BOTW dull, that's fine, if you feel that Infamous is the best game ever, that's great, tell us why you think that.  I'm just saying we should make a list of the top 100 games for how they are now, not how they were.
