I know GFWL was supposed to be that too... I get the whole padding out their ecosystem with more games from a range of generations, but it just seems like a really bad idea to invest in to it though when Microsoft have already proven they aren't good at supporting things for the long term and all signs point to them slowly leaving the market rather than expanding. Even if Sony don't have as much BC support as Xbox they seem like the much safer choice to me. Whatever they do have you know will stay there, there's no such guarantee on MS' side. |
What MS did with GFWL is irrelevant, and it wasn't really the same thing. We weren't getting Halo Gears and Forza on GFWL, they are going all the way with UWP. GFWL was bad from the get go, and it didn't really show any real growth as far as the Xbox ecosystem was concerned. Saying all their effort with UWP is worthless because they canned GFWL is completely baseless since they already have a more clear vision for UWP.
MS's decision to take emphasis on traditional exclusives away? I don't support it. However, their mission to bring their library together under one roof? Fantastic. Don't think of it as backwards compatibility, more just being able to buy older games regardless of what platform they were on. Sony should adopt this philosophy because PS's library could literally go toe to toe with Steam. Except instead of putting their shit on PC, have it exclusive to PS hardware. But guess what? AND have the new exclusives, AND have the remake market so things like N Sane Trilogy can still exist.
