Considering over the decades if not centuries we've had accounts of rich people in charge catering for the Rich and less for the poor. I wouldn't say it's a big stretch.
Mankind, in its arrogance and self-delusion, must believe they are the mirrors to God in both their image and their power. If something shatters that mirror, then it must be totally destroyed.
