Sometime in the 2020s, Sony will release a handheld/tablet that will play their console games, possibly digital only. Sony could in essence make the PS5 a platform of products. We have a Pro for the high end line, but the low end/portability can be considered as well. Scaling will be the name of the game. Unlike the (current) Switch, not tied to 1 hardware.

The portable will render the games at 4x lower resolution as the PS5, there could be a system to dial back settings, use compressed, lower quality assets to leave enough overhead for the same visual fidelity, essentially you're getting the same experience. In fact I think Sony engineers biggest priority right now is figuring out scaling and making it a system wide feature, not only to low end but also to Pro lines down the line, to not have the hassle of individual patches anymoe. (I also do not expect native 4K to be standard on PS5, is too costly compared to checkerboarding.) Since you're not getting the full blown game as the PS5, file sizes should also be kept in check.

Just like Nintendo, they will not have to split their resources anymoe, all devices will play the same games. Sony isn't gonna leave the portable market. This will be the evolution of Vita and remote play.
