You should go for it and experience it on your own terms :) It sucks that crazy and prodominantly young fanbases do such a thorough job of turning people away from good stuff. Undertale is, on its own merit, very good, but I can totally understand how fans would sour the whole thing. It's happened to me for plenty of games and shows, but I just had decide that art can totally be enjoyed in a vacuum if you put it in one.
