Are you trying to tell me that after all the #WinterIsHere tweets, advertisements and mentions from the GOT marketing team, that Winter is actually NOT fully here and the the real Winter storm is season 8!!!!
On a more serious note, i actually believe you could be right, it makes sense for all the "side quests" and other political storylines to be finished off only to realise at the end that they should of listened to the North and that none of their issues mattered as Winter really is coming then season 8 to focus on what should be the biggest, longest war of the whole season.
