We don't really need to wait. I'm not interested in 4k yet, but I'm not going to demand that everyone on this planet stop advancing or trying out 8k until I say so.
People have been experimenting with all sorts of tech that still isn't ready yet, but they still want to try it out. There are plenty of expensive technologies and services out there that people still go for. It doesn't have to be for the common 3rd worlder to try out.
