David did the work for them making it a world wide success and as we won't see this change for another 6 months... why not announce it before it get's ruined by being leaked. |
Actually I just looked it up, David Tennant was announced as the 10th doctor 16th April 2005, the day the 4th episode of the first series aired, so he was announced even further in advance. xD
It just wasn't as big news back then I guess.
I guess BBC are incapable of keeping a secret from leaking out, so they just announce it.
