Maybe is not your case but I frequently see people using this weird rare cases to undermine an entire movement or minority, like if someone indentifies itself as a woman while being a man (something that has been happening for centuries despite the repression) then someone statrs exposing rare dumb cases like those you mention and put them all in the same bag just to justify the feelling of disgust they feel about gay and/or transgender people.
