No, they couldn't. Maybe another crime (though I doubt it), but nothing close to treason. For one, you have to be at war with the country to consider treason charges. When two Americans gave information on nuclear bomb secrets during the Cold War to the Russians it wasn't treason. This is considerably less than that.
