There are some horrible people in this story. Perhaps they're made that way by the Abyss but, then again, maybe it's just that they're strong enough to survive it.

I admit that it has made me come very close to crying.

Edit:  Well.  Never mind the "very close" part.

No shame in that. Shed those manly tears. 

I find the contrast from cute to brutal just makes it much worse. I can brace myself for it in already dark universes, but when I'm reading something colorful and fun, only to see a character die, it absolutely destroys me like nothing else. I'm pretty sure I cried more at Going Merry's death in One PIece than anything I've seen in...well...almost anything else. And that was a freaking boat!

Speaking of One Piece, this week (or next given how Jump releases work) marks One Piece's 20th anniversary. Oda included a heartfelt message with the chapter. Made my throat pretty tight. Not enough to cry like poko, but still pretty nice.
