But I think what he means is that FF12 was the first FF game of the current trend of FF games being noticeably worse than mostly everything before it in the franchise. FF12-15 have not been as good as FF4-X. Mostly due to the worse battle systems, the heavy reduction in story, and the overall dullness of the experience with all the walking and fighting/grindyness. The world's of the older Final Fantasy games were much richer and more interesting. FF12 and onward were big, empty, and boring. |
I also prefer FFXIII tbh. Although it was far from stellar, meh at best, I enjoyed the combat system so I had fun at times. FFXII was just a boring and dull experience all the way. Open world, yep, but empty and not fun to travel in. Story and characters were just... awful, way two-dimensional. I think it's a hate-or-love game though, I think it's the worst mainline FF game (FFXV is close though).
