I fully expect it to perform and play exactly as it did in the trailer. It will look very sexy, it will have great moment-to-moment gameplay, and it will gradually degenerate into a tedious, grind-y slog. After playing games like Evolve, The Division, and Destiny, I've become bearish on these shared-world, multiplayer-focused shooters.
Take a quote from EA vice president Patrick Soderlund:
"[Anthem is] a social game where you and your friends go out on quests and journeys. It's a game that we've been working on for almost four years now. And it's a game that - once we launch it next year - will be the start of maybe a 10-year journey for us."
I don't want to take a 10-year journey with Anthem. I want a game with a clearly defined beginning, middle, and end, or, at the very least, a game that comes complete at launch. There are far too many similarities to Destiny here, which raise a lot of red flags for me.
Just my two cents. I'm glad for folks who will enjoy it.
