My bad I should have used the word patriotic, nationalistic has a bad connotation.
It kind of makes me sad since it is a powerful symbol for many of our military. My Grandfather lied about his age (16) to fight in the second world war. He then went on to fight in two more wars for his country. He saw many people give their lives and to many of them the flag ("for which it stands") is more than just a piece of cloth.
Why chose a flag if you just wanted to express yourself by pissing on a piece of cloth? I would think some would see it as an ironic way to piss on their sacrifices (limbs, liberties or lives). I'm also guessing few here have every sacrificed as much for other people's freedom.

I think most soldiers are more concerned about the actual people than the flag. If the flag magically disappeared, I'll guarantee you people like your grandfather would still risk their lives if it means they help others

I don't disagree with that, that does not make the flag any less a symbol that was in fact there while he and others were risking thier lives. She has every right to do what she did it just shows an utter lack of respect for those that bled and died for her right to express herself.
