A lot of people with autism typically have the same issue. It takes them quite some time to gain social skills
To make it worse, one of my friends was a heavily sheltered and autistic person. It felt terrible to see him not know why he wasn't considered a fun dude to be around |
It's a fascinating topic to me, because I'm at the opposite extreme: I'm ridiculously empathetic to the point where some people think I can read minds. I can't, but I'm almost too aware of subtle clues to the point I can get uneasy from minor changes in tone or expression. I've played poker once...and won the pot. That said,I wasn't always like this. I was very slow to mature, and into my early 20s I was in a bit of a child like bubble in some ways, especially with women. My social awareness has grown exponentially ever since to the point where I find it very easy to master a crowd if I put my mind to it.
