I agree, that's another good reason for them to backup Kim. I would say that this probably will make them want to put a puppet ruling NK if the situation gets unsustainable. Anyway, they surely prefer to have Jong-un there because they don't have to worry about any of that. A puppet would demand at least some kind of burocratic control and they would hate to play babysitter with a population of a whole country. But between that and letting the US control the region, they would surely choose the aforementioned situation.

Of course, it would be another government that would violate civil rights, but hey, China does that all the time. And it would still look like an improvement compared to the current situation.
