This is a lifelong pursuit of mine. I try to engage in a Memrise Japanese lesson about once a day ideally, but lately it's only been about 3x/week. I did however find a lot of success reading a Japanese children's story that had the English, the Hiragana(Kana+Hana), and the English phonetics of the words - it was awesome.

I also tried making my own creative posters digitally which was fun for a while - learning it "hands-on" so to speak, actively engaging myself in the process. I'm getting there!

I really wish that I had started earlier than I did, but I've been really bad with procrastinating!

I taught in Japan(English Teacher) for 1.5 years and never knew the language beyond begginer, and we're talking begginer-begginer. I think modern technology and diet has definitely dampened picking up new skills for everyone, but Americans getting hit the strongest. That being said, as a result of enjoying the experience, and feeling like there was so much left to explore if I could delve into the language, I know have this new long-term goal, so it works out.

I'm not upset at my progress. I plan to go back no earlier than 2020(Olympic Season) and have plenty of time to learn at a good pace. The process helps me understand why and how I procrastinate, and how to ore effectively tackle a longterm challenge like language. 3min-Memrise lessons and reading children's stories are far from daunting.
