Super Mario World was a true sequel to SMB3.

I'm sorry but Mario taking a trip to Dinosaur Island is not what I call a sequel. If SMW was a sequel to SMB 3 then Sunshine is a sequel to SMB64. It was a different game.

Gonna have to disagree with you there.  In terms of gameplay and aesthetic, it shares much more with SMB3 than it does either of the two (three, if you include Lost Levels) previous games. Hell, Super Mario World was called Super Mario Bros 4 in Japan on release.  To not consider it a sequel to SMB3 is revisionism at its finest.
