Roughly 90% of people I know graduated with some debt. It's a mix of manageable to oppressive depending on the person. I know people well into their 30s that still have years to go paying off those 4 years. It is such a common topic when discussing finances that the odd person is the one with no debt these days.

Compare that with what percentage are affected by war or terrorism. Not to diminish those is has had an impact on, but statistically it's actually pretty low. Pearl Harbor (1941) and World Trade Center (2001) are the only times in the past century that Americans have had a glimpse into it. Unless North Korea launches an attack that kills thousands I would expect this number to be higher for most people under 40.
