FF and DQ aren't even close to turn based strategy! Turn based RPGs, yeah. But strategy? Not even close. You need base building, unit recruiting, different factions to choose from and a main aim of defeating all opposing factions to be a strategy game. FF/DQ don't have a single one of them.

If you want to split hairs that much then yes.

Doesn't mean though that there is any less strategy involved in them.

Yea I wouldn't get that picky myself but others might.  DQ and many FF games have a turn based combat system which pretty much makes it a turn based game with exploration and heavy on story.  I mainly try to split it between real time and turn based but then you have plenty of games/genres that mix those play styles up.  You know how gamers get when you start trying to specify genres.
