As someone who hasn't played any of them, what are the differences between the 5 games? Are there even enough differences to warrant so many sequels?

The main difference are the mechanics. They change in every game, but the main goal is almost always the same, survive will being stationary. That probably doesn't warrent sequels, but they all slow well it seems. I started to enjoy watching people play them, especially Markiplier. Theory videos on the games were fun to watch as well
