The problem with that is that nintendo canters to a niche portion of gamers and it doesn't have the kind of reach both sony and ms have being companies that have a wide range of services/products. Nintendo can't match the appeal or reach they have. Let's see nintendo match them before we start talking about nintendo broadening the gaming audience beyond sony or ms. |
Sentence 1: So? That is not the point of what Harrison is trying to express.
Sentence 2: In traditional gaming circles, I agree. In nongaming circles, that is debatable.
Sentence 3: Match them how? I do not understand what you are saying. However, it is clear that Wii's success was with a different demographic than traditionally understood and that means we do have a prescedence of Nintendo reaching a gaming audience that is outside Sony and Microsoft (the fact that PS3 and XBOX 360 each sold around 80 million that generation proves Nintendo opened a new market that largely unaffected Sony or Microsoft's market). If you mean in terms Switch sales, well, obviously after four months on the market, we cannot say for sure the console will match Sony's PS4 but even if it does not, that is not to say Switch did not reach a different market; rather, it means Nintendo did not reach a bigger market.
