Super Mario Odyssey is going to be a mega hit. I know people who plan on buying a Switch for that game alone.

Isn't that quite typical? The Mario game, The Mario Kart game, The Super Smash Bros game, and The Legend of Zelda game are always the mega hits of every Nintendo console. I guess we can add Splatoon the list now going forward.

No, Mario Sunshine and SM3DW or Wind Waker and Skyward Sword wasn't mega hits. Super Mario Odyssey and Zelda BotW doesnt seem like typical 3D Mario or typical 3D Zelda, this Super Mario Odyssey seems it will be is on scale of Mario 64 or Mario Galaxy, so basically one best 3D Mario game ever. Same goes for Zelda BotW, people are consider it for easily one best Zelda's ever (some for best ever). MK8 is considered for one best MK ever and Smash Bros 4 is biggest and most completed until now. It seems that Nintendo with Wii U and Switch is really making some of best iterations of their IPs.

They didnt show anything for those games, they just confirmed they are in development, most likely they want propore revile with trailer and they will give year of release. But that doenst mean they will not be relased in 2018. esapcily that said Switch Pokemon will need more than a year, holiday 2018. is almost 1.5 year from E3 2017. Yoshi and Kirby had full trailer and year of release and they will almost certain be released in 1st half of 2018. (before E3 2018.).

Thats point, E3 that's focused on 2017. games did not stopped them to show some 2018. games even to announce some games that will be released maybe beyond 2018.

I was right, focus was on 2017. games with few announcement of games that will be released outside 2017.

Its not point only about upset fans, but point that they wanted that after Pokemon 3DS announcement to be sure that Pokemon is in development for Switch, most likely we can't hear anything about that game until next year. Its similar story for Metroid Prime 4 ananucment, and actualy Regie talked about that, how Metroid Prime "is a franchise that we know people have been very eager to get some news". People were very pleased because they are getting 2D and 3DS Metroid, you can bet that people would be angry if there was Metroid 3D announcement with just remaster of 2D Metroid. E3 media measure numbers show that Metroid Prime 4 announcement one of biggest news of E3, Metroid Prime fans literally cried. :D

Nintendo done great job with E3, and nobody really question their E3, Pokemon and Metroid Prime 4 announcement are totally logical because reasons I mention. Again, fact is taht you dont know if those game are 2018. games or not, Nintendo didn't said anything about year of releases, only fact we have they said Switch Pokemon will need more than a year of development and holiday 2018. perfectly fits that info.

What Reigge said is really answer on lotsa things you dont understand or you dont want to understand:

You know, for us, we believe that having hands-on opportunity married to an announcement is really the best way to do it,” Fils-Aime told IGN. “And so let’s take Super Mario Odyssey for example. We could have announced it months ago, but we weren’t yet ready, the team wasn’t ready, to show it and to let the consumer really understand visually how the hat mechanic works, how the capture mechanic comes into play. And so that’s how we think these through.”

For certain games, games that will be in development for, let’s call it a decent amount of time, like Metroid Prime 4 -- also, given that it’s a franchise that we know people have been very eager to get some news -- that’s when, fine, we’ll share it. We’ll share it early,” Fils-Aime added. “Others, we want to hold closer in and reveal it when the gameplay is going to be available. It literally is game by game, title by title, how we make that decision.”

If they want a proper reveal they make a trailer like they do for other games. They don't go and say "oh look, we just started making these games". When you do that you waste proper reveals. Specially when there was never a mainline home console game for Pokemon and people are eagerly awaiting a new Metroid. When they say that 2 games are coming in 2018 and don't do the same for 2 other games i don't jump to conclusions and try to act as if that that's irrelevant.
Do you really believe that if they felt Pokemon was apt for a 2018 release they wouldn't say so?

You were wrong on the part that Nintendo's new way of doing things was that they focus on the short term. It wasn't like that.

The Pokemon announcement was planned before E3.
People want it, yes? But no one made promises; Pokemon Company always said that they had no intentions of doing so. It was just a bad decision. Fans could have easily waited for next year.
Nintendo doesn't plan these things on top of fan reactions. I haven't seen any comments showing or even hinting at that.

What are those quotes supposed to prove? MP4 is an exception to the rule.
Pokemon and Fire Emblem were not exceptions. So, that first quote also doesn't apply.

That's my point, Metroid Prime and Pokemon are not proper announcements for Nintendo, they are just confirmation that they are in development, that's why they didn't had any trailer or year of release. Also they never said they just started working on those games.

No I wasnt wrong and they did focus on short terms games, clear facts again disproves you. They showed 12 games and 1 DLC in Nintendo E3 Spotlight, 8 of them and DLC are releasing this year, 2 games most likely in 1st half of 2018. and two in second half of 2018. or beyond.

It seems you don't see anything, there was huge amount of people that were disappointed and confused when Pokemon for 3DS was announced but nothing was announced for Switch, Nintendo just wanted to ensure people that Pokemon is in development for Switch. Similar goes for Metroid Prime.

Those quotes proves how Nintendo is managing announcement of games, that they in most cases showing games when they have gameplay and they are very far in development, but in some cases they are expectations and they will announce game even it's not so long in development.

You need to realise that Nintendo will announcing Switch games for 2018. in next 12 months, basically we will again have E3 where Nintendo will announce some games that will be out later that same year, same like this year around E3 we had Pokemon Tournament DX, Mario Rabbids and Rocket League announcements that are coming later this year. Again, don't forget that Nintendo most for Switch 2017. games announced in January of same year.
