You should have been here in 2007. We even had new terms like Wii360 fans who basically drooling and getting insanely happy with the Wii's sales number and were laughing with the Sony sales and fans (some fans deserved to be laughed with tho).

90's were different you turned on the television and you saw crash calling out nintendo/mario (imagine if someone did the same this gen XD).

Games that were in the works to also appear on N64 became exclusive to Playstation or time exclusive like tomb raider

Read about how Square got a financial investment boost and moved to a bigger office in Tokyo and opened a new one in santa monica and bam FFVII will not appear on N64.

thing is Sony just did what Sega/nintendon't.

Yep. Sony capitalized as well because sega botched their launch with the Saturn and pissed off third party. They launched the Saturn ahead of schedule.

In retrospect I think the launch was rather a small issue. In 95 game magazines had a lot of fanmail from saturn and one of the reasons they got a saturn was because it got 1-3 games bundles(daytona/virtua cop/virtua fighter) sure playstation was 100$ cheaper but had NO GAME included.

And if you were one of those people who got a 299$ playstation with Ridge racer 70$ you were pissed of because it came with only track...no kidding and oh yeah their was also this thing called a memory card that you possibly needed. fanmail from that time is hilarious. And their was also that other system called 3DO that had some fans and people forget.

95 wasn't great for next gen systems. the 16 bit systems still had 50% marketshare and fans of them couldn't stop posting how you should not get a next gen system yet (especially the nintendo fans).

95 wasn't that great for Sony, they had a big dispute with some of its devs including the wipeout guys who openly said they will release Wipeout also on other consoles, they had no mascot like Sonic who was going to release a game in 6 months, they had not that many fighters and the 6 months MKIII time exclusive deal will no cut it while sega had virtua fighter and showed a game called Dead or alive , they had no horror games, no great racing games and worst no RPG's (magazines would write that if you love RPG's don't get a playstation because it only has King's field and few multiplatform RPG's. And their was also this thing called 3DO that got all the porn games and a M2 add on that would make it insanely powerfull...

96 was the turn around, sony was solving the issues with the devs and did some restrucuring (Would become SCEI in 97) and invested a lot in new projects, they found a mascot with crash and parappa while Sega's sonic was a mess and travelers tried to fix it but it became the horrible game called Sonic R, PSone was getting a lot of fighters star gladiotar, battle toshinden, dead or alive did not end up being an exclusive for saturn and oh yeah their was also tekken, their was a horror game in the work called biohazard, the motor toons guys were working on a racing sim, they announced a lot of RPG's including FFVII but people should not forget FF tactics was announced around the same time and few months later Dragon quest VII was also announced.....And that 3DO M2 did not came trough....

That Christmas Sony dominated and 97 I believe was when Sega announced that they are going to work on the next console and only a few games like Panzer dragon to the West will still release (with like only 5000 copies X_X)... and Nintendo was screwing up the launch with delaying so many games/delaying the system and that promised DD thing took so long to come out...

Great times...
