I don't think the mid-gen refreshes are bad. If gamers want the option and have the money, that's fine. I do see why people would rather wait for another full gen though. Console gamers are used to the hardware they have and will be content with it for a long time. Jumping into another iteration mid-gen seems like it could be money better spent on games.
