I like what I see in Overwatch but have yet to play it so I can't form a full opinion on which is better. Would love to and if the game came out on Switch, I'd buy it immediately.
What I can say is I think Splatoon is more unique in terms of aesthetic and style: I'm trying to think of other games where you play as squid kids, the weapons are painting tools like brushes and rollers, a match is decided by how much territory your ink claims versus the competition's, and where projectile physics emulate the physics of paint in real life. Not having much luck on that front...
Overwatch is regularly compared to Team Fortress 2. I'm not currently aware of a game that is regularly compared to Splatoon.
