It would be hard to run a patreon with the goal of buying the site, if that's what you mean. But the overall idea of VGC being funded by Patreon, I certainly don't mind. But still, at the moment it's being owned and run by ioi, and he runs the site for profit, and that isn't really compatible with Patreon.

I meant in terms of supporting it rather than buying it, buying means we'd have a whole lot of mess to deal with.

Imagine if we all pitched in to buy out VGC, who would be in charge, how would you go about splitting site ownership among many on here that were to pitch in to the buyout?. It honestly sounds like a complciated mess that could turn ugly within a matter of weeks/months if you ask me. Patreon allows to pitch in for site funding, which in turn could go towards site improvements or hiring a person to redesign the site (since we perma'd the last site designer).

Who was the last site designer? I don't recall anyone important getting permabanned.

I think it could be done with a sort of representative democratic comittee leading it.

Who should that profit be paid out to? What I meant by break even is that all surplus money should be reinvested in the site to further improve quality

Well, if 1000 users pay $10, that's $10 000, which ain't bad. Considering the amount of users here using adblock while browsing, and the relatively low userbase, I can't imagine the site being that costly to buy.

What do you mean?

You underestimate the worth of this site. The site itself would be more then $1m, but that is without accounting for potential ad revenue in the future. And it might be discounting the sister sites.

VgChartz is minisculue compared to Gaf, but almost all other similar sites are miniscule compared to VgChartz.

Are you talking about sales sites in particular?
