Santa Monica are better at it than Naughty Dog, less one liners and a more nuanced story is what they are all about, like a novel versus a movie. Ryse like gameplay? Did you even see the gameplay this E3? God of War's combat looks amazing. I'm more worried about other games, like you said, Days Gone and the likes, coming from developers who have only ever done just one of the things right, can they actually manage to do both fairly well, as well as Naughty Dog, I don't think so. God of War was always about both gameplay and narrative too. God of War isn't the issue I'm specifically talking about, Santa Monica knows how to nail both story and gameplay. Its the other developers that I have my doubts about. Also like I said I like a variety of games. |
You think God of War's story telling has been better than Naughty Dogs work with stuff like TLOU? Forget plot but the moment to moment character writing? To each their own.
The combat looked well animated, as far as depth we'll just have to see.
I'd rather they went larger than life and less opf this emotional stuff with this new game, but that's just me.
As far as the other studios, I have faith in TLOU 2 and that's it. If Studio Liverpool reformed and did a super duper Wipeout game, or if a fully funded Twisted Metal game with a modern damage model was coming, that would excite me more than another cinematic TPS game.
