Same here. It's like all of Sony's studios thought 'if Naughty Dog can do it, so can we', but nah, it doesn't work like that. What you end up getting is Sub-Ubisoft action adventures with nothing new brought to the table. Anyone expecting Days Gone to be anything more than what EA or Ubisoft ship out on an annual basis is to be dissappointed, trust me.

Santa Monica will undoubtedly fail at trying to be as clever as Naughty Dog when it comes to subtext in the characters and stuff like that, in that bracket only Rockstar fly with ND. SM don't have a history with well told stories and good character writing, why should I be excited about this games story? They've fucked with the gameplay and give us Ryse 2, it's insane.

On the other hand Sony's consoles get a whole lot more than their studios stuff, and thank God for that, because the truth of the matter is Sony's studios just aren't that good.

Santa Monica are better at it than Naughty Dog, less one liners and a more nuanced story is what they are all about, like a novel versus a movie.

Ryse like gameplay? Did you even see the gameplay this E3? God of War's combat looks amazing.

I'm more worried about other games, like you said, Days Gone and the likes, coming from developers who have only ever done just one of the things right, can they actually manage to do both fairly well, as well as Naughty Dog, I don't think so.

God of War was always about both gameplay and narrative too. God of War isn't the issue I'm specifically talking about, Santa Monica knows how to nail both story and gameplay.

Its the other developers that I have my doubts about. Also like I said I like a variety of games.

You think God of War's story telling has been better than Naughty Dogs work with stuff like TLOU? Forget plot but the moment to moment character writing? To each their own.

The combat looked well animated, as far as depth we'll just have to see.

I'd rather they went larger than life and less opf this emotional stuff with this new game, but that's just me.

As far as the other studios, I have faith in TLOU 2 and that's it. If Studio Liverpool reformed and did a super duper Wipeout game, or if a fully funded Twisted Metal game with a modern damage model was coming, that would excite me more than another cinematic TPS game.
