I actually agree with you, people who say never should predict shipment figures, because as it stands it's pretty unfeasible to suggest ps4 won't pass the Wii.

April 2017 - March 2018 : 78m (18m shipped sony's forecast)
April 2018 - March 2019 : 92m (14m shipped prediction)
now if someone would tell me how the PS4 isn't supposed to ship more then 8m after March 2019 till it's discontinued, I'd be happy to hear that story.
Alternatively those that expect it to drop massively from the 18m this year... that would be an entertaining tale as well. It could easily outperform my 14m prediction, it would need to drop by almost 50% next year for the ps4 to have a chance of not reaching the Wii.
