I ran into this same problem.  Bought a 50 inch 1080 in 2009, then told the wife I needed a new one when we bought our house so I could leave that TV in the general living space and have one in my gaming space, so bought that in 2013.  Then last year had to explain that while I did just buy a new TV I now needed a 4k one for my games because of console and PC upgrades.  So a 4k bought in 2016.  At this point, I have more TVs than I have rooms to put them in.

Yep I got this 60" in 2014. Ah well I'm the bread winner and she doesn't complain to much. She just hate's how I'm extremely cheap about everything except gaming and whenever we vacation (which she does appreciate).

then the problem is just that you may need to make her happy when you buy it by gifting her
